Sturdy and lightweight indeed

This is my first camera tripod. I was hesitant at first since I will mainly use this for travel video and picture-taking purposes. But after receiving the product, I am really impressed. As written in the description, this product is lightweight and sturdy. So one can easily use this for outdoor shoots. Also, the camera head movement is pretty smooth. The product is no doubt user-friendly but it would have been better to supply a mini user manual for beginners.

I will do an update here after shooting some outdoor pictures for my upcoming trip.

Superb quality at Rs.1299

I got it on 13-Oct-2018 with all the accessories mentioned so no issue with the delivery and the item delivered.

I am using Nikon Semi DSLR with this tripod. Following are the details:-

Height &Weight :-9/10

It’s very lightweight. Only 3 lbs (1.36 Kg). They provided the Zippered carry bag which makes it easy to carry for outdoor shooting. It’s perfect for most cameras up to 6.6 pounds.

Tripod’s legs:-9/10

The tripod’s legs can extend from 20” to 48” which helps to keep the stand stable even the surface isn’t flat. Leg locks release smoothly and glide easily to your desired height. Crank up the center post for a tripod that is 60” tall which helps to make real videos even there is a huge crowd.

The rubber feet adjust to help you achieve the perfect position.

At maximum height, the tripod may lose stability which will depend on many factors. That’s why I gave only 9 out of 10.

Level:-9/10

There is a built-in level above the legs which lets you know when the base is level. Another one is on the top of the camera plate which lets you know when the camera is level.

Also, there is a rubber foot adjust which helps you to achieve the perfect position.

Movement:-8/10

It does pan from left to right and left to right. It’s moving very smoothly however some professional photographers will not find it very smooth.

Holding:-9/10

There is no default configuration to hold the mobile phones as it’s specially designed for Cameras however You can search for a bracket or an adapter to hold the mobile. These brackets are very cheap. You can get them for Rs.150 to Rs.200 through the online/local market.

Finally, it’s a very good product at this price range.

Hotel? Trivago. Tripod? AmazonBasics!

Summary: Nearly a must-have for any amateur camera or video recording work

The great:

1) No less than 10 kinds of adjustments

2) Can sit at just over a foot height and can go upto 4.5 feet

3) Easy to carry: The bag to carry is very good and the tripod itself shrinks to a carryable size to carry in the bag

4) Must have for YouTubers. The stability it provides is very good for youtube videos.

5) Quality: The quality of the material is simply exceptional. I could drop it from about 5 feet height and it won’t’ break (not tried, but it feels that sturdy)

The good:

1) Has level meter: But only for right-left. Wish it had for front-back also!

The not-so-good:

1) No Universal Holder: If you plan to shoot video with mobile, you need a universal mobile holder bought separately.

Who is it for:

1) If you are buying a video camera just go ahead and buy a tripod already.

2) If you do any kind of video work, even on a mobile phone use a tripod. Without a tripod, the videos will be very jittery due to movement, even if you (or cameraman) have a very stable hand

3) Photos: Needed only for photos that have long exposure (for example in the night). Or for long-distance shots. In both of these cases, a small movement in your hand will lead to blurry photos.

BEST BUDGET TRIPOD!!!

The tripod is one of the best budget tripods. The matte finish is great and the overall fit and finish are great, the materials used feel premium and of high quality. It also has an inbuilt spirit level to see if the camera is straight/in level to the ground. The trip gets very high and allows you to take shots from a wide variety of heights. The pan is smooth and tilts are also smooth. Although a beginner wouldn’t be able to take very smooth shots. You need some level of experience with panning and tilting for very smooth pans. The tripod also removable mounting screw so you don’t have to screw in your camera every time. The tripod is light and the carry bag allows you to easily take it to several places. Although I would have liked a bit more sturdy feeling when at Max Height. All in all, it is a great purchase and nothing else can beat it at this price!

Worth the money.

It’s heavy and sturdy. Comes in three pieces, the head, the tripod, and a padded bag. Inside the bag, you have a user manual, spare camera shoe, and Allen keys.

The tripod is real heavy. Approx 3kgs. Fully expanded, stands tall at about 5′ 5″. Add the head, it will reach about 6ft. The tripod has a level indicator and a small compass. The head has three-level indicators. The only problem I saw is that, you can’t store both tripod and head in the bag.

The pistol grip is solid and apart from the quick-release button for the shoe, there’s also a screw to hold the shoe in place.

With the pistol lever pressed, you get a 360 deg movement and be able to lock in any position.

The center rod can rise up another 10″ or so… And it has a hook at the bottom to add weight or tie the tripod down if necessary. Also, it can be removed and the pistol grip attached for low shots.

Overall, bang for the buck.

Useless & Will potentially break your camera – Stay Away

  1. All the locks on the feet slip and will not stay in place, balancing is a nightmare. If not careful the whole thing might fall off.
  2. The pistol grip is totally useless. It cannot even hold a small mirrorless camera.

The only good thing about this product is that the carrying case is not bad.

This is a potentially dangerous product since all the locks slip and your camera can fall off anytime. The locking might seem adequate when you purchase the product but it won’t last more than 3 to 4 uses and then everything feels very loose. I could not return the product on time so I’m stuck with it and using it as a glorified light stand.

Please do not use this tripod for a camera because however careful you are with it potential breakage is inevitable.

Really keeping up with “Amazon Basics” will break in 15 days’ standards.

Misleading information – read the fine print

Misleading information

  • I searched for a “mobile phone tripod” and this product came up third in the search results.
  • It is an AmazonBasics product so I relied on the branding, did a quick scan of the specifications, and ordered it
  • When it was delivered, I realized the product was NOT compatible with mobile phones
  • When I read the product details again, I realized that on scrolling down 2 to 3 screens (in small font on my iPhone XS Max) there’s one line saying the product is not compatible with mobile phones
  • The Amazon app and the customer representative told me that the product can be replaced with the exact same product. That obviously doesn’t help me.

It was quite disappointing as I had relied on the Amazon brand and, to be honest, I felt cheated. I entered a very specific search. This product should not have appeared in the results. Also, the information about mobile phone incompatibility should have been highlighted.

Not Sturdy for DSLR(s)

It seemed like a fine product at first glance and I ordered without hesitation as it was Amazon Basics. I have had a positive experience with Amazon basics products. But this was not the case.

I had to return it within a day only. It was not able to hold a DSLR firmly at an upwards angle. This was with a normal 18-55mm so not too much weight. I thought that the product must be defective so I decided to go for a replacement.

As it turns out, that was not the case with that piece. The new piece had the same problem. Tripod was not able to hold it firmly. Even the movement of the auto-focus motor was sufficient to make the lens move from its angle. This was enough to ruin photos especially the long exposure ones.

Packaging:

This product comes wrapped in plastic inside a decent cover. The cover is good for overall use. However, the box that it came in was damaged the second time. It was torn at many places but I didn’t mind that too much.

I had to return it again and finally ask for a refund. I would suggest going for something sturdier even if it is expensive.

Negative Review 4

Well designed with most features but poor quality plastic and construction

I am an amateur DSLR user for about 4 years and have been frequently using a 48-inch SLIK 2000 tripod that I bought 18 years ago., and bought this one for want of a taller one to go above people’s heads when shooting over a crowd.

Pros:

– Quick-release plate – though it takes some getting-used-to going from a basic camera mount

– bubble-view levels

– swivel legs

Cons

– quality of plastic

– build quality

– Not rugged (feels fragile)

Sturdiness: 4/5

Ruggedness: 2/5 (poor in verbal terms)

Ease of Operation: 4/5 (does what each thing is supposed to do and keeps it locked/steady, etc)

Build quality: 2/5

Plastic material: 3/5 (material that is used for handles, knobs, latches, etc)

Aluminum frame: 4/5

Price (Value for money): 5/5

Overall I would give it 3.5 stars if there was an option, so giving it 3 stars, but surely not 4-star for this tripod.

Now for the details…..

The pack of 2 that I ordered the first time came with damage on one of the tripods, so had to order a replacement and return this pack. Amazon did a good job getting this replacement and taking the return without hassles after I made a replacement request by including the photo (first one above), but that’s another story. The second pair came with an extension rod that is not fully vertical (call it leaning probably 2-3 degrees) and was apparent as soon as I set the tripod and cranked up the extension rod for max height (60″). In my opinion, that’s really bad build quality for a tripod.

After having found this issue in the second pack, that seems to explain why 1) Amazon told me that the pack-of-2 has to be replaced as an entire item (so, both tripods)., in other words, they would not replace only the single tripod with the damage., 2) they are selling pack-of-2 for such a discounted price ( 2nd tripod for about 20% price of one). Buying a pack-of-2 may be a good deal considering that one of the two may possibly be defective (even small, it could handicap the tripod in some way). I am now thinking of keeping the second one back in my cabinet for a few months before giving it off to a friend as planned.

This tripod is a very good one for beginners or an occasional user, but if you are a professional or frequent user (even a few days a week), I don’t think it will last long due to the bad build quality and the plastic. Also, the knobs, latches, and stuff seem fragile that not handling them smoothly (in other words, being hard operating them) could break something. For example, there is the clamp (with screw) that can be used to lock the head to prevent it from turning about its vertical axis, which seems can easily break the female part (shown with an arrow in the first photo) that it goes into as that is plastic if you tighten it more than what it can take. Quite disappointed to find such an average quality from “Amazon basics”. However, it is a good buy and worth the price (of about 1300) even for a pack-of-1

There were some reviews here that mentioned that movements were not smooth – whether the tilt or the extension rod or the head about a vertical axis – but I had no such issues, all movements are smooth, no stepping.

So, if you are looking for your first tripod or something to use for the short term (few years), this is a great tripod at a budget price.

Unable to tight my DSLR

Sir, yesterday I received my tripod stand. I am trying to fix my DSLR, but it’s not getting tight, after a certain limit, I am unable to tight more. In fact, I am also not applying much force, it may damage the tightening system. So request you to guide, what I can do. If I try to focus downward, then the tripod is unable to bear the load. I am using Nikon d5300.
