QUESTION: Job satisfaction makes a person happier.
Fact: Happiness comes from within; sometimes, the most challenging Job cannot make a person happy.
Job satisfaction is Important for a person to continue in a project and in a company, It reduces people-related issues at work, but it is not true that it always leads to happiness. It is not always true that a higher designation—which can provide more job satisfaction—can really bring happiness as well.
Some people derive happiness from the company of their close friends, some from their family life, while others enjoy pursuing their hobbies. Happiness is also in celebrating small or big achievements at work or in your personal life. Two people doing the same job might not get the same amount of happiness. Happiness varies from time to time, because it comes from within and not from the type of job one is doing.
Happiness depends upon the nature of the person. Those who are extroverted, and optimistic can be visibly happy whilst introverted folks can be happy but less visibly so. It is difficult to make pessimistic folks happy because they immediately find something missing and start pondering the lack. It is important to have job satisfaction, and many career-oriented people might rate job satisfaction as the major factor in happiness, but it is more important and crucial to find happiness from within as it will help In keeping the body and mind healthy too too.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AS THE EMPLOYEE? You should introspect and find out what makes you feel happy, If it is not related to your work, then it is better for you to set aside some time to undertake those activities which make you happy. You should find happiness in any incident, provided you focus on the positive side and remain .optimistic. It is possible to have mood swings, but the sooner you come out of the bad patch, the better. This can be done by separating noise from the real issue, and working on the latter rather than sitting on the issue and pondering over it. If job satisfaction is the main source of happiness and you are not getting it, then you should talk with your manager. You should keep in mind that every job has some mundane elements and they too need to be done for successful completion of the job, even though they do not provide happiness.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AS THE MANAGER? You can provide help to your employee only if lack of job satisfaction is the main reason for his unhappiness. If you, along with the employee, are convinced that the job is not challenging but has to be done, then make clear to him the importance of its completion and support him for its duration. This will set the right expectation and timeline. If you feel that the job is’ challenging, then explain why you think so to the employee. If he remains unconvinced, suggest a change of team or project. You would not like to have a reluctant warrior on your team.
